Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and her husband, David James, have announced their separation on their first wedding anniversary. Hidalgo shared on Instagram, "Our wedding day was the best day of my life so far. Perhaps because my life with David has been incredible. It’s been over half of my adult life—full of joy, new experiences, major changes, important lessons, incredible friendships, success, companionship, support, growth, and deep love," as reported by Click2Houston.
She added, "This year, life took a turn that made us see things differently. So, very much unexpectedly, this day of our anniversary, David and I are separated." The couple had been legally married in a 'paper wedding' officiated by Judge Mike Engelhart on October 30, 2024, but decided to part ways after one year of marriage.
Hidalgo, 33, announced her separation from her husband, saying, "It's not what either of us wanted. It is what we confidently, though painfully, think is best." She has previously spoken about her mental health and how her husband helped pay for her depression treatment in 2023. Earlier this year, Hidalgo said she would not seek reelection in 2026. Despite the separation, she added, "Just as we have for 10+ years, we deeply love, respect, and admire each other. Each touch," as per KHOU.
