Rice University is grieving the loss of Claire Tracy, a 19-year-old sophomore and former midfielder for the Owls' women's soccer team, whose death has shaken the campus community this week.
In an email to students, Dean of Undergraduates Bridget K. Gorman wrote, "It is with deep sadness that I am writing to tell you that Claire Tracy, a second-year undergraduate student, passed away on Sunday." High School Standout And Ties To Rice
Tracy joined Rice in fall 2024 after a standout career at Brookfield Academy in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, where she helped capture a 2021 state championship and posted season totals that included 43 goals and 25 assists. She was a four-time conference player of the year, graduated eighth in her class, and majored in finance at Rice while participating in groups such as Rice Women in Business and the Rice Eclipse finance board, according to her Rice athletics bio on the Rice Owls site.
