Henderson City Councilwoman Monica Larson has lost the endorsement of the Henderson Police Supervisors Association, one of the city’s two police unions. The union cited a recent interaction between Larson and a Henderson Police Department officer that was captured on body camera footage, stating, “For someone who ran on supporting the police, her actions in that bodycam video are not indicative of someone who supports the police,” as reported by FOX5 Vegas. The development follows other ongoing issues involving Larson, including a restraining order she filed against fellow Councilwoman Carrie Cox, who has been indicted for secretly recording a conversation with Larson and two business people; both police unions had previously withdrawn their endorsement of Cox as well.
The Henderson Police Officers Association’s position on Larson’s support remains unverified, as police union endorsements appear uncertain amid ongoing contract negotiations with the city. Earlier this year, both police unions withdrew support from Councilwoman Carrie Cox following the dismissal of the police chief, stating, “The Associations believe that the Councilperson has not accurately represented to the media or public her prior knowledge about the issues related to the chief,” as per 8 News Now.
The unions also criticized Cox for causing divisions, adding, “Worse, the Associations cannot tolerate statements that have been made by the Councilperson which are intended to divide not just our memberships, but the unions themselves.” Larson, whose term ends in 2028, has faced questions about her professional background and conduct, did not respond to a request for comment early Friday, and now faces added uncertainty as city politics continue to unfold.
