Earlier this week, Hernando County resident R.W. Resca Jr. was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities responded to a call on Nov. 21, 2023, reporting a foul odor and a body near Cortez Boulevard outside Brooksville. The death was ruled a homicide. On Dec. 18, 2025, R.W. Resca Jr. was convicted in connection with the case.

Investigators quickly identified the victim and suspect. R.W. Resca Jr., born April 3, 1970, confessed to the murder and disposal of the body, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office. On Dec. 18, 2025, he was sentenced to life in prison for second-degree murder and an additional 15 years for possession of a firearm by a felon.
