Health inspectors issued a red placard to Himalayan Kitchen in Kaimuki after an inspection on Tuesday uncovered major violations, including broken refrigeration and a live rat. The Hawaiʻi Department of Health reported on Wednesday that the restaurant at 1137 11th Ave., Suite 205 will remain closed until further notice.
Inspectors also found moldy food, improper storage of toxic materials, inaccurate date marking, and signs of insect and rodent activity. The restaurant must prove all refrigeration units can consistently hold 41°F or below before reopening, according to the Hawaii State Department of Health.
The Himalayan Kitchen was closed by the Department of Health after inspectors found a live cockroach and a live rat in a food preparation area. The closure stops all dine-in service and food preparation for off-site events. The kitchen must stay closed until it passes a follow-up inspection confirming that the issues have been fixed, as stated by the Hawaii State Department of Health.
