Two women were hospitalized, and a building now bears the scars of a reckless driver's actions following a hit-and-run crash in Chicago’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood. As reported by WGN-TV, the incident occurred just before 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, in the 900 block of West 79th Street, when a gray sedan, which is said to have run a red light, struck a white SUV.
Fleeing the scene on foot before police could apprehend them, the individual responsible left behind significant repercussions: two injured women and a damaged building. According to a CBS Chicago report, the impact was severe enough to send the SUV hurtling into an abandoned building on 79th and Morgan streets. The two women, present inside the white SUV at the time of the crash, were subsequently taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center and are listed in fair condition.
Chicago police are now piecing together the aftermath of this hit-and-run, calling for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward to assist in their investigation. Officials are urging members of the community to contact CPD Area Two Detectives at 312-747-8273 or to leave an anonymous tip at CPDtip.com.
The collision not only wrought physical injury but also structural damage; the Chicago Building Inspector has been notified of the damage to the building, echoing the chaos that a moment’s negligence can impart on the infrastructures of our daily life. As a damaged structure now stands as mute testimony to the havoc, the identity of the driver behind the gray sedan remains unknown. Area Two detectives are fervently working to shed light on the shadows of Thursday night's events.
