A late-night shooting in Socorro put a quiet neighborhood on edge over the holiday weekend, leaving three people hospitalized and triggering a major-crimes investigation, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies have kept details close, including the victims' conditions, while they sort out what exactly unfolded.
The gunfire was reported in the 10100 block of Cyan Valley Road, a residential stretch just west of El Paso Community College’s Mission del Paso campus. The campus sits at 10700 Gateway Blvd E, per El Paso Community College.
Scene And Response
According to KVIA, deputies were dispatched around 10:04 p.m. on Dec. 27 after a report of shots fired in the area. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office told KVIA that three people were taken to local hospitals for treatment, but deputies did not release any information about how seriously they were hurt.
The sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit has taken over the case after deputies initially assisted the Socorro Police Department at the scene. The agency is treating the situation as an active investigation.
Lower Valley Context
The Socorro shooting lands in the middle of a troubling pattern of gun violence in the area. Earlier this year, a separate June shooting in the Lower Valley that also left three people wounded drew scrutiny from law enforcement and residents alike.
Investigators in these cases typically urge anyone with information or video from the scene to contact authorities as they work to piece together what happened. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has described the Socorro shooting as an active case, and media partners report that additional details are expected to be released as they become available.
