Cristian Daniel Diaz-Garcia, 27, a Honduran national, has been convicted of aggravated identity theft and fraud for using a false Social Security number and citizenship claims to bypass employment rules. He faces up to 24 years in federal prison, with sentencing scheduled for March 17, 2026.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Middle District of Florida, Diaz-Garcia first applied for a job with the Archer Western-de Moya Group Joint Venture II, an E-Verify participant, in August 2021. After being terminated in 2022, he obtained another person’s identification documents without consent. In February 2023, he used a falsified I-9 to reapply with the same employer, impersonating that individual to bypass E-Verify.
Homeland Security Investigations, the Social Security Administration–OIG, and the U.S. Border Patrol investigated Diaz-Garcia, leading to his indictment on July 30, 2024. The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Wheeler III and Assistant U.S. Attorney Karyna Valdes.
