Honolulu will see a shift from moderate trade winds to lighter southerly breezes as a cold front approaches from the northwest, bringing cloudy skies and increased showers for the western Hawaiian Islands. Rainfall is expected mainly in windward and mountain areas until Wednesday afternoon, with a "weak upper low" east of the Big Island adding complexity to the weather, according to the National Weather Service.
Once the front reaches Kauai and Niihau, Oahu, and Molokai by Thursday morning, "Moderate to breezy cool northerly winds will blow in as the front passes through each island." Maui County may experience lingering showery conditions from Thursday night into Friday morning before high pressure rebuilds to the north, as reported by the National Weather Service.
Easterly winds are gradually decreasing ahead of an approaching front. The current north-northwest swell will decrease, and new northwest swells may raise surf heights to advisory levels by Wednesday. Conditions remain below "critical fire thresholds" with gentle winds and sufficient humidity. No advisories or warnings are in place. The next front is expected this weekend, bringing possible rainfall mainly to Kauai and Niihau, as stated by the National Weather Service.
