Over the weekend, Honolulu hosted its annual "Shop with a Hero" event at Mililani Walmart, where local children enjoyed holiday shopping alongside community heroes. Honolulu Police Department's Facebook post noted that breakfast was provided by McDonald’s, adding a cheerful start to the day.
The program involved an array of local heroes from Honolulu Police Department, Honolulu Fire Department, DOCARE, Hawaiʻi Department of Law Enforcement, Hawaiʻi Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Honolulu Ocean Safety, and Military Police. Honolulu Police Department shared that "each participating keiki was paired with a hero," giving the children a memorable experience selecting holiday gifts.
The "Shop with a Hero" event in Honolulu allowed children to meet local service members outside of their usual duties. According to the Honolulu Police Department on their Facebook page, participants shared smiles and stories during the event as part of community policing efforts to build connections between law enforcement and residents.
