Early this morning, a Honolulu Police Department officer was injured during a disturbance on Kūhiō Avenue in Waikīkī involving a 25-year-old man experiencing a mental health crisis. The confrontation escalated when the suspect, who was in a unit with family members, stabbed the officer, who was able to transport himself to the hospital and is reported to be in good condition, as reported by the Honolulu Police Department.
The suspect also injured himself during the incident and was taken into custody. He is currently undergoing a mental health evaluation at the hospital, as stated by the Honolulu Police Department.
According to the Honolulu Police Department on their Facebook page, authorities have opened an attempted murder investigation after an altercation that left an officer injured and a suspect hospitalized.
