Honolulu will see increasing clouds and showers tonight, mainly in windward and mauka areas, with light to moderate rain possibly reaching leeward sides. "A storm force low far northwest of the state is sending some high clouds over the western half of the island chain this morning," while strengthening easterly trade winds may require securing loose objects, according to the National Weather Service.
A ridge of high pressure will bring drier and more stable trade wind conditions from Wednesday to Thursday. By the weekend, a stalled cold front northwest of the state will shift winds to east-southeast, and "This lighter pattern will allow for a hybrid trade wind and sea breeze regime to set up over the weekend," as reported by the National Weather Service.
A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for most coastal waters until Tuesday evening because of increasing trade wind speeds, causing choppy conditions. A medium-period north to north-northeast swell is decreasing, but another moderate swell is expected by late Wednesday, affecting north-facing harbors like Kahului and Hilo. The National Weather Service says “a wetter pattern shift may be possible early next week,” with no significant weather disturbances currently expected.
