On Tuesday night, a fatal accident occurred in Houston, claiming the life of a cyclist. City of Houston reported that the crash happened around 10:40 p.m. at 1300 North Wayside Drive. The 45-year-old male victim, whose name is pending confirmation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, was struck by an oncoming GMC Yukon while crossing the intersection.
The HPD Vehicular Crimes Division, led by Sergeant D. Griffiths and Officer J. Johnson, is investigating the crash. Preliminary findings indicate that the cyclist may have failed to yield the right of way while crossing in front of the SUV. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded quickly, but the cyclist’s injuries were fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the black GMC Yukon, a 38-year-old woman, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Interviews indicated she showed no signs of impairment. The investigation is ongoing to determine additional details and clarify the circumstances leading up to the crash.
