The Houston Police Department is conducting an investigation into a fatal shooting that resulted in the death of 33-year-old Sebastian Jimenez. The incident occurred around 6:35 p.m. on Christmas Eve, and officials are preparing a referral to the Harris County Grand Jury.
The incident took place at 3508 Denver Street, where the HPD Homicide Division’s Sergeant C. Ponder and Detective J. Meister conducted an investigation. According to City of Houston, officers first responded to a different location at 1400 Scott Street, where they found Mr. Jimenez with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital by Houston Fire Department paramedics, where he was later pronounced dead.
The investigation later determined that the shooting occurred in a parking lot at the Denver Street location. The shooter, who remained at the scene, stated that he discharged his firearm after Mr. Jimenez allegedly brandished a knife. He cooperated with authorities, providing his account of the incident to investigators at the scene.
In coordination with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, officials have decided to have the case reviewed by a Harris County Grand Jury, indicating complexities in assessing the legality or justification of the act. The HPD Homicide Division has encouraged the public to provide any information that may help clarify the circumstances surrounding Sebastian Jimenez’s death.
