
Houston police are investigating a fatal shooting in which an armed suspect was killed by HPD officers. The incident occurred at 13351 Cityscape Avenue at approximately 1:40 a.m. yesterday, according to the City of Houston. The suspect’s identity has not been released, pending notification of next of kin by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The officers involved, HPD Officers R. Hernandez, J. Rodriguez Juarez, and M. Villarreal, are recent members of the Southeast Patrol Division. They engaged the suspect following a report of an accident and a potential confrontation. The officers responded after being informed that an intoxicated male had collided with a vehicle and threatened a woman with a firearm. The officers, who were not injured, began their service with HPD between November 2024 and January.
Officials stated that upon arrival, officers saw the suspect inside a vehicle. As they approached, they observed the suspect was armed with at least one firearm and issued multiple verbal commands. The investigation further stated that when the suspect made sudden movements inside the vehicle, the officers discharged their weapons, striking the suspect.
Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the suspect deceased. The case is under routine investigation by the Internal Affairs Division, the HPD Homicide Division, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
