
Houston is preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the group stage matchups were announced. According to KHOU, the Houston Soccer Celebration Kickoff at Shell Energy Stadium brought hundreds of fans together, with soccer legends attending and the city getting ready for the games next summer.
Houston is set to host a World Cup group stage featuring teams like Germany, Portugal, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Cabo Verde, Curaçao, and Uzbekistan. "We're looking forward to showing Cabo Verde, Curaçao, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, and Uzbekistan the hospitality that is the signature of our city," said Chris Canetti, President of Houston's World Cup host committee, as reported by Houston Chronicle.
Soccer fans are excited for the international event, with the tournament drawing families and communities together. As fan Silvia Macias told KHOU, "It’s something that we do as a family, so it is pretty exciting, emotional."
