As the holiday season reaches its festive crescendo, last-minute shoppers and those in need of a quick dash to the store on Christmas Eve or Day might find themselves wondering about store hours. Fortunately, several Houston retailers are providing shoppers with limited hours on December 24, but be aware that many will close their doors on Christmas Day, leaving few options for those unexpected holiday emergencies or impromptu purchases, according to CW39.
Houston-area grocery stores, including ALDI, will adhere to abbreviated hours on Christmas Eve, closing as early as 4 p.m., as CW39 reported. Chain stores such as Costco and Walmart will also shut early on the eve and not reopen until after the holiday. While Kroger will remain open until 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve, according to information provided by Houston Chronicle, its doors, alongside many other retailers, will remain closed on December 25.
For those unforeseen necessities or a quick escape from the holiday hubbub, a handful of establishments will remain open on both days. Pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens intend to maintain service, although it's suggested to verify specific hours in advance. Waffle House, along with Texas-based Buc-ee's stores, are set to uphold their tradition of round-the-clock operations, providing continuous service throughout the festivities.
Many small businesses, like gas stations and convenience stores, usually stay open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, making them good options for last-minute gifts or snacks. Most non-grocery stores, however, have limited hours on Christmas Eve and are closed on Christmas Day, so it’s best to plan ahead. Some places, like Waffle House, remain open even on the holiday. To avoid wasted trips, check online or call ahead before heading out, according to CW39.
