Realtors and their clients stumbled upon a grim discovery in East Bexar County last Friday: human skeletal remains in an advanced state of decomposition. The remains were found around 1:45 p.m. in the 10600 block of FM 1346, roughly 50 yards from the roadway on a property the group was visiting. KSAT reports that Sheriff Javier Salazar said the personal items found nearby may offer clues about the deceased's identity.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office is now to thoroughly investigate whether the discovery could be related to any missing person cases in the area. Sheriff Salazar mentioned in a news4sanantonio interview, "I’m pretty confident we’re going to be able to find out who this person is, sooner rather than later." Authorities have not yet identified the remains but suggest that they belonged to an adult.

While the discovery of the remains has certainly raised concerns, no weapons or explicit signs of foul play were found at the scene, according to Sheriff Salazar. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has been charged with determining the cause and manner of death, as well as identifying the remains which were already in such a degraded state that they could have been there for several months, as per news4sanantonio.

Interestingly, despite the absence of clear signs of violence, Sheriff Salazar mentioned there were indications that the deceased might have taken their own life. "There are some indicators nearby that this could quite possibly be a suicide, but again, we don’t wanna jump to any conclusions too early in the investigation,” he said, as quoted by news4sanantonio. With the investigation ongoing, the sheriff's office is looking to piece together the circumstances that led to this individual’s death and provide closure for any family members seeking answers.
