In the spirit of Christmas, Hunkapi Programs in Scottsdale brought some seasonal joy to children in need through its annual Christmas at the Farm event. This year marked the 22nd anniversary of a tradition founded by Terra Schaad, inviting children from group homes and crisis centers to a day filled with festive activities and equine therapy.
According to a report by ABC15, the celebration has become a holiday staple for many volunteers who return each year to make a bright day for some of Arizona's most vulnerable kids. Activities such as horseback riding, cookie decorating, and visits with Santa Claus are organized to foster a sense of joy and community.
Further details shared by Scottsdale Independent highlight the event's communal feel, with volunteer roles ranging from horse leaders and side walkers to "Head Elves" who guide the children through their day at the farm.
The event also provides an avenue for the community to contribute, as people are encouraged to sponsor a therapeutic riding horse for the day or make donations that go towards horse care and holiday wish list items. "Love and joy will fill the farm, with opportunities to give back through donations or sponsorships," as noted by the Scottsdale Independent.
