This morning, an incident unfolded at the Benicia Police Department when a vehicle, driven by an intoxicated driver, crashed into the station's parking lot. According to a social media post from the Benicia Police Department, at approximately 2:30am, the driver sped down 2nd Street, disregarded a stop sign, and subsequently sent their vehicle flying into the police driveway, ending its unplanned journey among the parked fleet of police vehicles. "It is VERY fortunate that no one was injured," the department commented.
The Benicia Police shared the event with the public, emphasizing the perils of driving under the influence. With the holidays being a traditional season for merrymaking, they urged the community to "keep yourself and your community safe by finding an alternative way home after enjoying time with family and friends," highlighting that the celebrations need not lead to reckless choices on the roads.
The driver, identified as 19-year-old Christopher Reyes Palacios, was arrested for driving under the influence. Henry K. Lee, in a post on social media, reported that Palacios was "busted for DUI after blowing stop sign at E. L & 2nd streets - launching car into @BeniciaPD driveway & coming to rest in fleet parking lot, cops say."
