
In a remarkable show of bravery and community spirit in Irvine, a woman bystander took action after witnessing a violent purse snatching in a Grocery Outlet parking lot targeting a 74-year-old victim. According to an Facebook post by the Irvine Police Department, the suspect, later identified as Stheysi Radilla-Espinoza, 25, knocked the elderly woman to the ground before forcefully taking her purse.
Undeterred by the danger, the witness pursued the suspect and managed to retrieve the stolen purse after a brief struggle ensued. The Irvine Police quickly arrived on scene and, with assistance of another Irvine citizen, located Radilla-Espinoza hiding inside a nearby movie theater. The suspect was arrested on charges of robbery, elder abuse, and battery.
The police department's message praised the courage of the individuals who intervened, emphasizing their appreciation for the assistance in recovering the victim's belongings and apprehending the suspect. "We never want anyone to place themselves in danger, but we are thankful for the community members who stepped up to help the victim and assist in the suspect’s arrest," stated the post.
