During a City Council Meeting that convened last week, the proclamation was made official, with members of the Irving Police Department's DWI Unit in attendance to accept it.
Following this announcement, the Irving Police Department took to social media to spread the word. Their post urged the community to be particularly mindful during the holidays, a time when celebrations can quickly turn to tragedy due to the risky decision of driving while impaired. The department emphasized, "Driving impaired isn’t worth the risk and will land you on Santa’s naughty list at the very least. Plan a safe ride and help everyone make it home safely."
The decision to designate December as a month of prevention comes as no surprise, given the statistics that traditionally show a spike in DUI incidents during the holiday season.
