In a targeted move against retail crime, the Issaquah Police Department recently executed a successful shoplifting enforcement operation in the bustling Highlands area, partnering with Marshalls HomeGoods Loss Prevention. Details disclosed in a social media post by the Issaquah Police illustrate a clear message: theft will not be tolerated.
The police department shared a common occurrence, "A common reaction we get when arresting shoplifters is their shock and surprise to learn they are really under arrest and will be booked into jail, rather than simply being issued a court date and sent on their way." Their post also mentioned the unique position of having a local jail, which enables Issaquah's law enforcement to take immediate action.
Issaquah's police force also noted that many apprehended individuals carried outstanding theft warrants from other jurisdictions, signifying a broader network of retail crime beyond city limits. Moreover, the department's post carried an unambiguous statement intended as a deterrent, "We want to make it clear to anyone thinking about stealing in Issaquah: our aim is to keep Issaquah safe for residents, visitors, business owners, and shoppers. Theft in Issaquah will lead to you being arrested and taken to jail."
