
Jacksonville residents attended the grand opening of the Riverfront Plaza, a new addition to the city’s downtown area. The City of Jacksonville, Florida – Government shared images on a social media post showing community members at the public space, which is located on the Northbank just west of the Main Street Bridge.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday morning, Mayor Donna Deegan outlined the city’s vision for developments like Riverfront Plaza. She highlighted the role of public spaces in fostering community connections and described a connected city as being stronger, more vibrant, and more unified.
With the completion of Phase 1, officials have begun Phase 2 enhancements at the east end of the park. Planned additions include a beer garden, a rain garden, and a bike and pedestrian link connecting Riverfront Plaza to the Main Street Bridge.
According to the City of Jacksonville, the development is part of Jacksonville’s "I Dig Jax" initiative, a series of projects aimed at revitalizing the city. Information on Riverfront Plaza and other city projects is available on the city’s website. Construction on Phase 2 is currently underway and is expected to be completed between late 2027 and early 2028.
