As the holiday spirit ignites, the Jacksonville community marks the season with the annual Blackhawk Bluff Christmas Light Display, a tradition that transforms Girvin Road into a local winter attraction. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office took to social media to ensure that this festive occasion remains a joyous one for all. In a Facebook post heralding the display, the Sheriff's Office coupled their announcement with essential safety tips for visitors flocking to the spectacle.
With larger crowds anticipated, District 2 Commander Rickie Valentine has advised motorists, "Don’t speed through. Be patient with other motorists. Drive carefully." Valentine, emphasizing the need for careful driving, also reminded drivers to turn on at least their parking lights to ensure visibility in the crowd-dense area. In their social media announcement, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office underscored the goodwill of the Blackhawk Bluff neighbors, noting the display is "put on for free," and urging visitors to respect local properties.
The display's schedule runs from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and extends an hour later on Fridays and Saturdays until 11 p.m., allowing ample time for the community and visitors to partake in the holiday cheer. Officers are stationed in the vicinity as an added measure, ready "to help continue to keep traffic moving and keep everyone safe," the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office post articulated.
