High-speed thefts and police pursuits remain a challenge on city streets. On November 25, Chesterfield Police Department officers were dispatched to Dick’s Sporting Goods following a reported theft, according to a department social media post.

The Chesterfield Police Department reported that the suspect, identified as Jahsiah Perry, was seen leaving the store with stolen merchandise and entering a rented U-Haul. When Officer Niemeier instructed him to exit the vehicle, Perry fled, driving at high speeds and committing multiple traffic violations. During the pursuit, he drove over curbs and grass medians.

The pursuit extended into Manchester, where the suspect’s vehicle crashed and Perry, along with a juvenile accomplice, fled on foot. Chesterfield Officers Bruno and Hindman assisted in the search, which ultimately led to the Manchester Police apprehending both individuals.

Following his arrest, Perry was charged with Aggravated Fleeing, Resisting or Interfering with an Arrest for a Felony, Stealing $750 or More, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. These charges are classified as Class D and E felonies. During the incident, Chesterfield officers chose not to engage in a high-speed pursuit through the shopping area, instead broadcasting the situation to other units to reduce the risk to public safety.

Perry is being held at St. Louis County Jail with a bond set at $100,000, while proceedings involving the juvenile accomplice are under review by the juvenile court system. The Chesterfield Police Department noted that "The prompt response of Officers and multi-jurisdictional cooperation led to the arrest and confinement of a criminal who chose to endanger the public," acknowledging the efforts of Manchester Police and all officers involved in the case.
