Janesville's middle schoolers are in for a treat come January with the return of the much-anticipated Rec Nites, a series of school-based social events filled with fun activities to brighten up the winter evenings. According to the City of Janesville website, these events offer a mix of swimming, dancing, open gym, table games, prize raffles, and more for the city's sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. The program will be held on three evenings in January from 6:30 to 8 p.m. It gives students a chance to come together after school for fun activities. Admission is $7, and students must show a student ID at check-in.

Franklin Middle School students will attend on January 9, followed by Edison Middle School students. The final event will be held at Marshall Middle School on January 30. Home-schooled and parochial students are also invited to take part in these social events, as reported by the City of Janesville.

Concessions will be available for those looking to grab a snack, and for parents or guardians interested in getting involved, there is an opportunity to act as Rec Nite Chaperones. A sweet deal accompanies this volunteer position: the children of these parent volunteers can attend the Rec Nite for free, making it a win-win for contributing families, as per the City of Janesville.

The City of Janesville Recreation Division says these events give middle school students a safe and fun place to relax and socialize after school. Each event is designed for the specific school attending, helping students feel comfortable and secure. Parents or guardians with questions, or those wanting to register a home-schooled or parochial student, are encouraged to contact the Recreation Division at (608) 755-3030.
