The landscape of Huntersville's industry is set to change with JGA Space & Defense, a prominent manufacturer in the aerospace sector, announcing plans to strengthen its roots in the region. Following the acquisition by Torque Capital Group in 2025, the newly rechristened JGA Space & Defense is expected to infuse over $25 million into the local economy of northern Mecklenburg County, starting in 2026. This influx of capital is anticipated to lead to the creation of roughly 40 new jobs in the coming year.
According to a statement obtained by Mecklenburg County News, the expansion includes a new 60,000-square-foot manufacturing space in Huntersville that JGA will occupy starting the first quarter of 2026. Terry Culmone, JGA Co-investor and Strategic Advisor, expressed commitment to the area, stating, "We’re proud to break ground on our new state-of-the-art facility in Mecklenburg County because this is where our business began and where we want its promising future to continue to grow." Furthermore, the endeavor not only bolsters the company’s manufacturing capability, it also supports the region's potent military presence owing to the defensive nature of JGA's products.
Mecklenburg County has been recognized as North Carolina's largest hub for manufacturing employment, with the industry showing no signs of slowing down. JGA Space & Defense's initiative is perceived as a testament to the county's ability to house growing businesses. "This expansion is another clear reminder that Mecklenburg County is a place where new and evolving businesses can thrive and create real opportunity for our community," echoed Mark Jerrell, Chair of the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners.
New positions at JGA will span various specialties, including machinists, quality control specialists, and engineers, with an average annual salary reported around $55,000. Mayor Christy Clark of Huntersville conveyed optimism regarding the local employment landscape, adding, "We are so pleased that JGA Space & Defense is choosing to invest in Huntersville and help our community continue to thrive." The town, which has been the company's home ground since inception, anticipates witnessing further innovative strides by JGA in the future.
The project’s fruition is the result of concerted efforts by Mecklenburg County, the Town of Huntersville, and the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina. This collaborative approach underscores the region's support for industrial growth and its unwavering commitment to fostering a vibrant business environment for companies like JGA Space & Defense.
