The holiday spirit was in full swing last week in Kannapolis as local law enforcement continued their yearly tradition of giving back with the "Cops Target Kids" event. In a statement obtained by KannapolisNC.gov, the Kannapolis Police Department described their program designed to assist economically challenged families identified with the aid of the Kannapolis City School System.
Officers from the Kannapolis Police Department and their families dedicated a day to shop for necessities such as presents, clothes, shoes for children. The children, ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade, kicked off the day by sharing breakfast and lunch with their sponsoring officers and their families and were also granted personal time with Santa Claus. Kannapolis Police Chief Terry Spry emphasized the event's importance, "Every year we love seeing the smiles and joy we bring to children in our community. It is truly a special time for our officers and police staff, their families, and the children we are able to help."
To make the event possible, the police department garnered support from local businesses who contributed as sponsors. Notable establishments like the Target Superstore, Irish Creek Golf Course employees, and multiple local eateries such as Chick-Fila and El Amigo, alongside service providers like Rite Lite Signs and Dr. Mike Morton DDS, pooled their resources together to ensure the success of the program.
