Fire crews on Kaua‘i were called into action early Tuesday morning to tackle a blaze that broke out at a local aquaculture facility in Kalāheo. Reporting no injuries, the firefighters from multiple stations responded to the scene after receiving the alert just after 7:30 a.m., with the incident concluding several hours later.
According to the County of Kauai, the Kaua‘i Sea Farm structure on the eastern shore of Nomilu Fishpond caught fire early Tuesday. Fire crews arrived shortly after 7:50 a.m. to find a one-story building ablaze on the first floor. Despite limited water, a combustible roof, and restricted equipment access, firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze.
The newly commissioned 4x4-capable Water Tanker 5 from Kalāheo station played a key role. Its ability to navigate the muddy, limited-access road helped firefighters control the blaze and prevent further damage.
After containing the blaze, the KFD Fire Prevention Bureau took over for investigation. Property and contents are estimated at $144,000 in damages. Firefighters cleared the scene by 10:40 a.m., and the cause remains under investigation.
