Firefighters from the Kaua‘i Fire Department have been tackling a brush fire in Kōloa since it was first reported at 2:15 p.m. yesterday. The exact size of the fire was initially unknown, but there haven't been any injuries or damage to structures reported, as detailed in a County of Kaua‘i press release.
Later updates confirmed that the fire measured approximately 100 feet by 50 feet, crews from Kōloa and Kalaheo fire stations, along with Tender 5, the on-duty Battalion Chief, and the Department of Public Works worked together to bring it under control, with heavy smoke emanating from what was described as a "deep seated green waste pile on fire" according to the County of Kaua‘i. The Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency kept monitoring the situation closely during this time with no road closures reported due to the incident.
Crews stayed on scene into the evening to fully extinguish the Kōloa brush fire and ensure the area was safe. The fire is now under control, and firefighters remained until the area was completely safe. Tender 3 and other resources assisted in the operation, as per the County of Kaua‘i.
