The Kaua‘i Office of Economic Development is now accepting applications for its 4th annual Youth Climate Class, starting in February 2026. Fifteen high school students will explore six sustainability areas, including Clean Energy, Waste Reduction, and Green Workforce & Education.
Students have until January 9 to apply for the semester-long program, which pairs them with local leaders and businesses to explore sustainability in Kaua‘i. Participants will implement 10 green actions and earn recognition through the Hawai‘i Green Business Program.
“This class gives students the opportunity to see themselves as part of the solution,” said Nalani Brun, Director of the Office of Economic Development. According to the Kauai County website, the program emphasizes hands-on learning, connection to community, and skill-building that students can carry into their careers.
Classes meet weekly on Wednesdays after 3:30 p.m., with occasional weekend sessions based on partner availability. The no-cost program includes guided tours and a StoryMap showcasing last year’s cohort, highlighting the hands-on experiences awaiting the 2026 participants.
Students interested in sustainability are encouraged to apply early due to limited spots. For more information, contact Ana Española at 808‑241‑1969 or [email protected]. The OED also welcomes requests for accessibility accommodations, including interpreters for non-English speakers.
