Kelly Policelli has been appointed State Archivist by the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. She previously worked in archival and library roles, including assistant librarian and coordinator of University Archives and Special Collections at Elon University, as well as holding several positions at the North Carolina State Archives.
Policelli joins the State Archives with experience at both academic and archival institutions, including Digital Durham at Duke University, the Heinz History Center Library and Archive, N.C. State University Special Collections Research Center, and the University of North Carolina Photographic Archive. The Department of Natural and Cultural Resources announced her appointment yesterday, with Policelli beginning her role as State Archivist on Monday.
Policelli commented on her appointment, saying, "I am so excited to be leading the State Archives at such a pivotal moment," according to a press release. She noted the changes in archival work due to digital technology and the importance of preserving both physical and digital records of North Carolina’s history.
The N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources manages the state’s cultural and historical assets. In addition to the State Archives, the department oversees historic sites, museums, parks, and conservation programs. Through these responsibilities, the department works to support education, economic development, and community engagement across North Carolina.
