
Firefighters responded to a structure fire that broke out at a two-story commercial building located at 1731 E Washington Blvd in Downtown on the evening of December 9th, 2025, as reported by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). According to the initial LAFD alert, the incident, recorded under INC#1799, involved an outside fire that had extended into the interior of the building measuring approximately 50' x 50'.
Units arrived on scene and began an offensive operation to combat the blaze, breaching the building to find light smoke filtering through the structure, and no report of immediate injuries has been made public at this time, according to a statement obtained by the LAFD. Firefighters moved swiftly to contain the fire, which was restricted to the exterior of the building. The smoke observed inside the facility was soon determined to be residual from the initial flames.
The situation was handled efficiently, with a team of 28 firefighters who were able to declare a knockdown on the fire within 23 minutes of their rigorous efforts, as per the subsequent LAFD update. This announcement indicated that the quick response ensured that the fire did not claim any injuries among civilians or fire personnel.
Several fire stations, including FS 17, along with Battalion 1 and additional emergency units, coordinated their efforts managing the incident under the Central Bureau's jurisdiction, in Council District 14, and the fire department assured the public that nothing further was expected following the knockdown.
