The Lancaster Police Department is gearing up to spread some holiday cheer with their 3rd Annual Christmas on the Courts event. Set to unfold on December 20, the festive gathering aims to bring the community together from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Gay Street Basketball Courts. According to their Facebook post, the event promises an array of activities including basketball, an appearance by the Grinch and Chick-fil-A's mascot cow, alongside complimentary toys, winter clothing accessories, and festive treats.
In an effort to ensure that the merriment extends to every family, Lancaster PD notes that children 12 and under can look forward to free toys, while hats, gloves, hot chocolate, cookies, and Chick-Fil-a Chicken Sandwiches will be available for all participants, "while supplies last." The department also encourages residents to contribute by donating new toys and coats to the Lancaster Police Department prior to the event's December 19 deadline. As the police department brings the community together, their partners, including the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, Nutramax Laboratories, Walmart Lancaster, Food Lion, Chick-Fil-A Lancaster, Lancaster Promise Neighborhood, and the City of Lancaster, all play pivotal roles in turning this festive vision into reality.
The seasonal excitement doesn't stop at just games and food; the department is intent on creating a joyful, family-friendly atmosphere that celebrates the season in a way that resonates within the Lancaster community. Not only is the event free to the public, but it also underscores the department's commitment to community engagement and the creation of positive associations with law enforcement. "We’re kindly accepting donations of new toys and new coats," states the Lancaster Police Department social media post, inviting locals to step forward and support the cause.
In showing gratitude for the support received, the Lancaster PD gives a "special shoutout to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office for always teaming up with us to spread holiday cheer." The department also acknowledges their appreciation for the support from various organizations within the community. As the department's announcement on Facebook puts it, "Your generosity helps make this celebration possible for our community!"
The Lancaster PD ends the announcement on an enthusiastic note: "We can’t wait to see you there!"
