Las Vegas and nearby areas are experiencing gusty north winds, especially along the Colorado River Valley, with wind gusts reaching up to 40 mph in areas such as Katherine Landing and Bullhead City. The Wind Advisory remains in effect through today, with winds expected to ease slightly tonight, while dry conditions continue through at least Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Looking ahead to New Year’s Eve, updated forecasts indicate rain may arrive earlier than previously expected. “There is even more support for rain before midnight, so the run to run trends seem clear,” the National Weather Service said, noting light rain is possible in Las Vegas with temperatures staying near or slightly above normal.
Aviation forecasts for Harry Reid International Airport show north to northeast winds this afternoon, shifting southwest to west after sunset. The National Weather Service said, “Winds speeds this morning will generally remain around 10 knots or less, but will increase after 18Z with gusts 15-20KT expected and a 30% chance for gusts reaching 25KT this afternoon.” Winds are expected to decrease after sunset, with VFR conditions and clear skies continuing through the TAF period. Spotters are asked to report any significant weather following standard procedures.
