On Monday, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue team responded to an emergency in the Valley of Fire after a hiker was injured from a fall. The incident occurred near the Lone Rock Picnic Area, leaving the individual with head and leg injuries, as reported by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue.
Initial rescue attempts by rangers and fire personnel were blocked by the difficult terrain. This led to the use of an aerial operation to safely reach and assist the hiker, as stated by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue on their Instagram page, the SAR team deployed AIR1 with officers and a Mountain Rescue volunteer to extract an injured hiker from a rocky area. The hiker was packaged and airlifted to a waiting ground ambulance under the supervision of the SAR sergeant and then transported to a local hospital for treatment. The rest of the hiker’s party, law enforcement, and fire department personnel exited the area on foot.
