
Lawrenceville City Council welcomed two new members this Wednesday. Randy Travis, a retired investigative journalist, took the oath for Post 3, while Bryant Harris, a major in the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office, was sworn in for Post 4. Mayor David Still presided over the ceremony, which marks the start of their terms on January 1, 2026, according to the city's official website.
Post 3 Council Member Randy Travis, a retired journalist with a 45-year career and several accolades, has been deeply involved in the community. In a statement obtained by the City of Lawrenceville's official website, A Gwinnett County resident since 1990, he emphasized Lawrenceville's diversity at his swearing-in, calling it the city’s “superpower.” He said, “We celebrate it. We embrace it. It is our superpower. You don’t have to look like me, sound like me, pray like me, or love like me for me to care about you and want to make sure you live your best life in Lawrenceville.”
Bryant Harris, a lifelong Lawrenceville resident, brings over two decades of public service to Post 4. His experience spans the Marines, law enforcement, and emergency management. Emphasizing continuity, Harris told the City of Lawrenceville's official website, “Change in leadership does not mean that you will not be represented,” he said. “I am committed to being a leader who listens first, seeks common ground, and builds bridges between different perspectives.”
Both new council members signal a continued push towards diversity, engagement, and public service in Lawrenceville's governance. As sworn in with his wife Joan holding the Bible for the 41 years of their marriage, Travis brings a dedication that extends beyond investigative journalism to acts of service through the church and civic involvement. On the field where Harris has coached Little League football for seventeen years.
