An off-duty police officer from Lewisville was arrested in Heath, Texas, on allegations of sexually assaulting a minor. The officer, identified as 32-year-old Zacur Vargas, was charged after being found with a 16-year-old in what was described as a "suspicious activity" last Friday morning, as reported by the Lewisville Police Department on their Facebook page.
Responding to a 911 call around 6:00 a.m., officers apprehended Vargas, who was neither on duty nor in uniform, in a public place. Detained at the scene, Vargas was later incarcerated at the Rockwall County Jail. The criminal probe, led by both the Heath Department of Public Safety and Rockwall County authorities, is ongoing. Following the incident, Vargas was placed on administrative leave, the announcement of which coincided with the launch of an Internal Affairs investigation by the Lewisville Police Department.
Currently held at the Rockwall County Jail, the case against Vargas stands as a stark reminder of the stringent accountability that law enforcement officers face, even when acting in a private capacity. The Lewisville Police Department is poised to respond as more details come into clarity, intent on upholding their stated commitment to the community's trust and welfare.
