Local business owners in the Logan Square and Humboldt Park neighborhoods are on high alert after a series of burglaries targeted storefronts in the area, according to a business alert issued by the Chicago Police Department. The alert details recent incidents where perpetrators have gained entry into shops through back doors or by shattering windows, taking cash, and, in one case, stealing surveillance equipment that captured their own break-in.
The criminal activity was recorded during late December, specifically on the 2600 block of W. Division St. in Humboldt Park, the 3000 block of W. Diversey Ave., and the 3000 block of W. North Ave. in Logan Square, with the incidents occurring in the early morning or late evening hours when businesses were closed. All three crimes share a common modus operandi, involving three male offenders clad in dark clothing and gloves, using a white sedan with a black top to facilitate their escape efforts, but no license plate information has been provided.
Authorities are encouraging businesses in the affected neighborhoods to take preventive measures such as securing windows with additional equipment, ensuring surveillance cameras are working correctly, and being vigilant about suspicious activity. To improve safety and aid in the capture of these burglars, the Chicago Police Department advises business owners to communicate with neighboring businesses about the threat and to call 911 immediately with any relevant information should another incident occur.
The description of the suspects released by the police points to three male black individuals wearing dark attire and gloves. Their reported vehicle, an unmarked white sedan with a distinguishing black roof, offers little in the way of identification, considering the absence of visible license plates. Community members and shop owners are urged to take note of these characteristics and remain observant of any unusual activity around their premises.
