Residents of Logan Square are on high alert after the Chicago Police Department issued a community notice detailing two recent incidents of battery and attempted sexual assault. The attacks, which took place in the early morning hours of November 22, 2025, involved a suspect who physically assaulted the victims in what law enforcement believes were acts aimed at gaining control for sexual assault. The Chicago Police Department's warning, posted online, has raised serious concerns about safety in the usually serene neighborhood.
The first assault occurred on the 2600 block of N. Sawyer Ave. at 2:32 a.m., and the second incident followed shortly after at 3:23 a.m. on the 3100 block of W. Schubert Ave. According to the Chicago Police Department's alert, the suspect physically battered and restrained the victims using his hands. Their screams attracted the attention of nearby residents, who intervened, forcing the suspect to flee on foot, in unknown directions.
The police have provided a description of the assailant: a Hispanic male, medium to dark complexion, standing between 5'9" and 5'10" tall, with a thin build ranging between 105-160 lbs. He was last seen wearing dark gray jeans, a gray hooded sweatshirt with green and black at the bottom, and a gray or black ski mask. Community members are advised to be vigilant and to report any individuals or activities that seem out of place or suspicious.
To improve personal safety, the police suggest residents be aware of their surroundings, walk in pairs or groups when possible, and consider using rideshare options when returning home late at night. Dimly-lit areas such as alleyways should be avoided, and any unique characteristics of an individual that might be related to the suspect should be noted. These recommendations intend to mitigate risk, although it may not address the deeper issues of violence prevention and community security.
In the wake of these attacks, the Logan Square neighborhood is grappling with a heightened sense of vulnerability and a reminder that even familiar streets can harbor unseen dangers. As the investigation continues, local authorities aim to reassure the public with their proactive alerts and safety advisories. Anyone with information related to these crimes or the suspect is urged to call "911" immediately, and help the community in keeping Logan Square safe.
