The City of Long Beach's Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine is rolling out the welcome mat for local youth with its Winter Fun Days—a free supervised recreation program set to launch on December 22. Designed for kids aged 5 to 12, the program is set to fill the winter school break with structured play and enrichment, offering everything from arts and crafts to sports and holiday celebrations, ensuring the extended respite from schoolwork doesn't devolve into idle screen time or unchecked boredom.
For two nonconsecutive weeks, with a brief hiatus on December 25 and January 1 in observance of the holidays, staff at 19 parks across Long Beach will host these Winter Fun Days from noon until 5 p.m., where pre-registered participants can freely engage in the offerings or simply hang, because pre-registration for the event kicks off December 8 at the participating park sites from noon to 5 p.m., and while it's not mandatory to stay the whole time, structure and guidance will be readily available for those seeking it.
In an effort to further detail the scope and spread of the program, parents and guardians interested in registering their kids, or simply seeking more information, can visit the Winter Fun Days webpage. This portal not only serves as a hub for sign-ups but offers access to crucial details such as park phone numbers and a complete rundown of all participating locations ensuring interested families have all the needed details at their fingertips.
The Winter Fun Days initiative is just one aspect of the city's broader efforts to keep Long Beach's youth active, engaged, and safe during times when school is not in session, as the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine consistently provides a variety of programs and services designed to enhance the well-being of the community, further information about these programs and services can be found at LBParks.org, and those with direct inquiries can reach out to Heidi Mazas, Recreation Superintendent, at 562.570.3503 or by emailing [email protected].
