A Long Island community is grieving after the tragic killing of CVS worker Edeedson Cine Jr. on Christmas night. Cine, who was called in to cover a shift he wasn’t originally scheduled for, was fatally stabbed. In an interview with the New York Post, Edeedson Cine Sr., the victim’s father, described his son as selfless and always willing to help others. "He was the kind of person who would step in front of a bullet for anyone," Cine Sr. shared. The family had spent a close and memorable Christmas morning together, which has now become a haunting reminder of their last moments with Edeedson. Before leaving for work that day, he even took the time to wash the dishes.
The suspect, John Pilaccio, appeared emotionless during his arraignment and is accused of attempting to rob the store before stabbing Edeedson Cine Jr. He has pleaded not guilty, though he reportedly confessed to police that he needed money to pay off debts. The case against Pilaccio progressed despite detectives expressing frustration with CVS for delaying the release of important video surveillance footage. A spokesperson for CVS told the New York Post that the company had eventually provided the video footage, though later than desired, and is currently in discussions about how to support the family of their former employee. Meanwhile, a GoFundMe campaign set up for the victim’s family has raised over $42,000, demonstrating the community’s strong support for a family facing an unimaginable loss.
