The Los Angeles Fire Department was dispatched following the discovery of melted lithium-ion batteries at 12746 W Jefferson Blvd. The incident took place on the afternoon of December 2nd and was managed without reported injuries or threats to the surrounding community.
The LAFD reported that the small batteries were found to be in a state of meltdown within the elevator's confines. Firefighting units, including HazMat specialists, executed the isolation of the elevator shaft to prevent any potential spread of harmful substances. According to LAFD's alert, "firefighters initiated isolation of the elevator shaft and safe extraction of the batteries."
As crews worked to address the issue, the situation was deemed "Now Static," an indication that the hazardous condition was not progressing.
