On Tuesday evening, residents of Loveland were shaken by an act of violence at a local tanning salon. The Loveland Police Department reported on social media that officers responded to an active assailant attack at Endless Summer Tanning at 1518 Madison Avenue shortly before 7:00 p.m. The suspect, 20-year-old Kyle Behrens, was apprehended within minutes of the incident, according to the official post.
In a brutal and harrowing scene, Behrens is said to have attacked an employee with a hammer, inflicting serious injuries. He then allegedly proceeded to assault a second victim, a customer who had been present in the salon at the time. According to the Loveland Police Department, the quick thinking and courage of the victims allowed them to momentarily barricade themselves, buying precious time until law enforcement arrived.
Both individuals who suffered Behrens' onslaught were transported for emergency medical treatment and are now in the process of recovery. In a display of efficiency and bravery, officers managed to intervene in the middle of the assault, preventing any further harm. Behrens was taken into custody and has since been charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of Attempted 1st Degree Homicide.
Assistant Chief Trombley has been vocal about the resilience of the victims, stating, "No one deserves to be the victim of this type of crime. Sadly, trauma of this nature seldom fades quickly," as per the Loveland Police Department. The Loveland Police Department's efforts were further recognized for their quick response, as well as the support and care provided to the victims in the aftermath. The ongoing investigation into the attack limits the release of additional details at this time.
