Details of the case reveal that last Monday, the suspect allegedly committed an armed robbery at a gambling establishment in Florida. He is accused of tying up and assaulting an employee before escaping in a Dodge Ram pickup truck. The suspect, believed to have family connections in Shelby Township, fled to Michigan following the crime. The evening of the arrest, the Shelby Township Police Department took to social media to commend the work of their officers. Their Facebook post detailed the collaborative effort between the local Special Investigation Unit (SIU), patrol officers, and the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. Through the use of the FLOCK camera system, they were able to track the vehicle and conduct a successful arrest. The system alerted detectives when the suspect's vehicle was nearby, which led to a swift and safe apprehension.
The Shelby Township Chief of Police, Robert J. Shelide, highlighted the importance of the tools and teamwork involved. "This case is a clear example of how teamwork and the use of the FLOCK system were able to keep our community safe," Chief Shelide stated in the Facebook post. "Thanks to the swift coordination between our Special Investigation Unit, patrol officers, and the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, we were able to apprehend a dangerous suspect without incident."
