The Hawai‘i Police Department is calling for the public's assistance in piecing together events that led to a woman's severe injury in Kailua-Kona last Thursday. Police responded to reports of the injured woman, found unconscious at Keauhou Bay in the early morning. The victim, whose name has not yet been disclosed, received treatment for serious injuries at Kona Community Hospital. According to the official press release, a 24-year-old man, Beka Dribo, was arrested near the scene on suspicion of abuse.
After being charged for several offenses, including first-degree assault—a Class B felony—and second-degree assault, classed as a Class C felony, Dribo also faces charges for Abuse of a Family or Household Member, which is a misdemeanor. Found in the vicinity of the downed woman, Dribo's bail was set at $25,000. In light of the incident, officials have been painstakingly combing the area for clues.
The Hawaii Police Department urges witnesses or anyone with information related to the interaction of Dribo or the victim on the night before the incident, or in the early hours of that fateful Thursday, to step forward.
