In the early hours yesterday morning, a man was fatally shot outside a daycare center in east Charlotte, igniting a hunt for the perpetrator. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police were called to the scene around 3 a.m. at the 2300 block of North Sharon Amity Road, where they discovered 44-year-old Albert Lowery with gunshot wounds, as reported by WCNC. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, Lowery succumbed to his injuries.
The incident occurred in the parking lot of Tender Hearts Child Care, according to statements by the CMPD to WBTV. A Chevrolet Malibu was later found riddled with bullets, evidencing the violence that had erupted. Although this act of aggression shook the local community, authorities have reassured the public, stating that this was an isolated event and insisting there is no further threat to residents.
Residents in the vicinity, however, expressed their shaken sense of peace, with one neighbor, Angelia Bates, remarking to WCNC, "It’s kind of scary because this is a quiet neighborhood. You don’t know what people will do anymore." Her concern underscores a community's anxiety, still palpable despite police assurances.
Major Michael Anderson with CMPD stated, "At this time, there’s no indication that any rounds hit the daycare," according to an interview with WCNC. Investigations continue as the CMPD has urged anyone with information, including surveillance or cellphone video, to step forward. Meanwhile, local residents may be cautious, with Bates asserting to WCNC, "I won’t be going out late at night anymore."
