A shooting incident on westbound Interstate 96 near the Southfield Freeway resulted in one person being injured, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Michigan State Police (MSP). According to ClickOnDetroit, MSP received alerts around 1:15 a.m. yesterday about a possible rollover crash, along with reports of gunfire detected by ShotSpotter technology. Upon arriving at the scene, troopers did not initially find evidence of a crash or clear signs of a shooting.
The situation developed further about 35 minutes later when a 22-year-old Detroit man with multiple gunshot wounds arrived at a hospital and told Dearborn Police that he had been shot on the freeway. Although troopers initially responded, they were unable to locate a crash. FOX 2 Detroit reported that the man drove himself to the hospital for medical treatment. His current condition has not been released.
Further investigation into the freeway shooting revealed that the victim was one of three people in a vehicle that was fired upon multiple times by an unknown SUV before it continued westbound, NewMediaDetroit confirmed.
In pursuit of further information on the highway shooting, MSP’s First Lieutenant Mike Shaw stated that detectives are in the early stages of the investigation, with many details still unknown, including where the shooting began, what occurred beforehand, and who was inside the SUV, as reported by NewMediaDetroit. MSP is urging anyone with information to contact their tip line at 855-MICH-TIP or reach out to Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAK-UP to assist with the investigation.
