The Manhattan Beach Police Department has reported a flurry of activity in their latest Weekly Crime Summary, highlighting several arrests related to organized retail theft. Over the week of December 4 through December 10, 2025, the MBPD responded to 907 calls for service and took 42 reports, illustrating a persistent demand for police presence amidst the city's pre-holiday bustle.
Noteworthy incidents included a theft at Sunglass Hut, where two female suspects were apprehended after stealing a pair of sunglasses and hiding out in the mall's bathroom. In a separate incident at Alo Yoga, three suspects who pilfered clothing items and fled in a black SUV were stopped and identified by officers, leading to their arrest. Both cases, occurring on December 6 and 9, respectively, were documented as violations of organized retail theft. As per crime prevention tips provided by the department, residents were cautioned against advertising holiday plans on social media and encouraged to adopt security measures such as alarm systems and security checks provided by the MBPD.
Among the top crimes reported, theft led the list with six occurrences, followed by two instances of assault and a single case of vandalism. Despite the noted crimes, there were no auto thefts, burglaries, or robberies reported during this time frame. The MBPD reiterated the importance of calling the police on suspicious activities and recommended practical steps for package safety during holidays, like having neighbors collect mail to dissuade potential burglars.
While the reminder to not have packages and mail delivered if one is away from home seems to fall on deaf ears every year, the MBPD hopes their advice will be heeded with more care this season. The focus on safeguarding the community against residential burglaries comes off as a priority with the rise in theft during the holiday seasons.
